Kanchan Wali-Richardson (born 1990) is an American interdisciplinary visual artist who currently lives and works in Nashville, Tennessee. The name “Kanchan,” which means “gold,” also refers to Mount Kangchenjunga of North India, the third tallest mountain in the world. Wali-Richardson’s artwork ranges from videos inspired by the mystic poetry of Kabir and the Ganges River to sculptures and drawings in response to Virginia Woolf’s writings to inter-species performances with boa constrictors. The themes of her work primarily center around her personal relationship to the politics, religious implications, and sociality of environmental issues.
